Two priorities were set for the first day: changing the electric panel and the oil thank. One shot, bang, paff, pow! Of course, we are not doing that because having a new electric panel is cool or to simply to use the old oil thank to plant flowers… but what a minute. I know. Maybe I can invite people and make new friends with my new electric panel… Having a Bud. I can create a club: the NEPC (New Electric Panel Club). So excited now! Thanks to our Insurance company for these requests!
Lets share a piece of this “just for guy shopping” 😉 the electric panel shopping.
(base on literature and generous people sharing what they don’t know)
$1 800 – $2 500
Considering we don’t own the house yet and we work during the day (and they actual owners too), it is a bit complicate to set appointments and delicate to ask the them (actual owners) to receive 3 different electricians. So I went there to take 18 pictures and I published them on the web, so they can make the evaluation of the work to provide.
So lets start with pagesjaunes.ca to find an electrician.
Well. 5 pages of results. I know one of them. Big company. You can see there truck almost every day somewhere in the great Quebec area.
We have a old house in need of love. That mean we need the sympatic and very experimented electrician who is making the best job at the most affordable price. And we need to trust him.
None of them is saying “sympatic and very experimented electrician who is making the best job at the most affordable price”.
Ho! Found a clue. “Since 1980”. An other one with “25 years of experience”. Hehehe, there is one in a village close to here. Lets give him a call. Bull’s eye! First call and I found the “sympatic and very experimented electrician who is making the best job at..???”. Took several days, a follow up call and an email to get the written quotation : $ 2 400. Okay. In the range, very top of the range. Probably because we actually have 2 panels, and they should be converted in one. Hey also said he will change the pipe outside. I feel confident. He his not trying to fool me.
I want 3 quotations. Lets call this one. Looks good. Looks as good as a yellow pages add could be…
“Can do it for $1 600. Yep”. We just talked. He didn’t see the pics… And I explained to him what my “sympatic and very experimented electrician who is making the best job at the most affordable price” is planning to do. “Yes yes… $1 600”. Okay, so send me a quotation 🙂 Wow $1 600!!! 🙂
Honestly, I am a bit confuse. $800 difference! The first wants to do a lots and the second one is just providing a price, asking no questions…
To bad, lets call the big company. Worst case they are over budget.
Oups… a sympatic person, professional, asking lots of questions, doing a lot to be sure I have a good understanding. He wants to see the pics before sending his quotation. Two days later: $1 900.
That deserve a second call. I wanna know what is his problem! Big company, professional, customer oriented, and affordable price. He is trying to fool me???
I challenged him. Result. Difficult to not trust him!!! Should have call the big one first hehehe. Case close. They will be on site at the date we need.
Joint the Club, have a Bud!
